The last decade has seen a dramatic boom in Miami. New skyscrapers continue to be built, including the eight tallest in the State of Florida. The city has become a leading center of finance and commerce, as well as continuing to be a world center for television, art and music. All of this is on top of the inevitable crowd of holidaymakers seeking the sun. Miami has won awards for the cleanliness of the city, which should ensure its growth for decades to come.

Miami is also a great city for sports lovers to visit. The famous NFL team, the Miami Dolphins, were immortalized in history when, under Don Shula, they became the first team in history to win the Superbowl with a perfect season. Although the team has not managed to achieve anything like this degree of success in recent years, the city remains a hotbed of football. Many Superbowls have been staged here, the Southerly location and tropical climate making it an ideal location for a January or early February event.

The baseball team, the Marlins, is relatively young, and has nothing like the long and distinguished history of many other MLB franchises. It did, however, manage to win the World Series in 1997, in a series which contrasted games in tropical Miami with ones in frozen Cleveland. Miami also has professional basketball and hockey, as well as large international golf and tennis tournaments.
